Within the rock gold Frank Zappa as a diverse talent. He was a brilliant guitarist, an unbeatable band leader and an incomparable social satirist. He began in the 1960s as the leader of the wacky avant-rock pioneers The Mothers. His subsequent solo work included everything from jazz rock to orchestral pieces, always with the humor that Zappa's trademark was. He succumbed to cancer in 1993 but the mind boggling fertile workaholic left a immense oeuvre. Genius is a word too often used in pop music, but it has decided deals with Zappa.
