There was a point at which this era of UK hip hop seemed to be looked back on with some shame, which is ironic considering that most of the workmanlike stuff of the later period is now forgotten. OK, so they rap in some fairly Yankified accents and what was meant to sound a bit menacing at the time now sounds quaint, but it is a hands-down great album, with very varied subject matter and some well-planned-out, hefty musical backings. They would have only had to lose one or two of the less effective tracks and replace them with some more of their exemplary earlier singles to perfect it.

A Sampling Masterpiece, predating MR Shadow by 5 years. Considering the price of RAM at the time these guys squeezed every ounce of their machines.

The way the poetry interjects with the breaks and bass is amazing.
Serious statements smack with the bass or clever drum rolls provide punch lines for the witty bits leading into spooky crescendo's.

Each track has a main scratch break which is used sparingly and effectively to put the message across
