Edited 10 months agoSorry to spoil the party here but this is absolutely idiotic. You have a legendary release with such a complicated release history as stated in the marketing text. Never before have all the tracks from the original vinyl release in 1998 and the CD from 2009 been compiled into a single release. And then in 2023 you finally do it, package it in a beautiful triple vinyl release, ONLY TO REDO THEM ALL?
The re-editing is so bad, some tracks aren't even recognizable. The 13 minute Evil Dub version was perfect and now it is a 9 and a half dubby, muddy mess. Burma Heights sounded so funky and airy in the 10 minute version and had such a clever, psychedelic start with its vocal sample. All gone now in favor of a lacklustre edit that just kicks off with no introduction whatsoever.
If you have heard this album already and you are familiar with the tracks: Don't buy! I think the album deserves a complete release with the original mixes. If you have never heard this album (and I can't believe I'm saying this as I'm usually a vinyl enthusiast): Get the CD from 2009 or stream it as the original versions there are way better. -
Unfortunately my Side A - Track 2 has a deep enough scratch out of the sleeve that there is a constant click through the majority of the track. Otherwise it's fantastic.

Edited 11 months agoMythique.

Not only a remastered version, but an unedited one, and this is my favourite part of the digital era. The ultra cool dub techno tracks in the original album felt edited to fit into one CD so it is great to have them at full length here and going for the full 102 minutes.
And it's annoying to say that "these guys were great in their debut and then they sold out" but actually I prefer this very laptop based version of their playful dub techno because they could be the best of the bunch doing it. -

i also thought i'd mention, since i don't see it in the previous comments, that the US and UK versions have some different tracks on them. the reissue in 2009 also has longer versions of many of the tracks. so all three are different. interestingly, the US medicine label release has the UK track information embedded in it, although by listening and by the track times, you can tell it's the US version.

this is a great album. i agree with reTcon that this is the only swayzak album i like, but it's very, very good.

referencing Snowboarding In Argentina (CD, Album) MED9605
The deep chords and melodic leanings of "Speedboat" announced Swayzak's debut album, SNOWBOARDING IN ARGENTINA to the world in spectacular fashion. It's still one of the classics of tech-house, from the driving rhythm and quiet muttering of "Burma Heights" to the dreamy breaks of "Blocks." "Low-Rez Skyline" chugs into life, bringing a subdued pep to the dancefloor, while "Fukamachi" keeps its groove throughout. A slow drawl come via "French Dub," which transitions into the mellow "Skin Diving." "Cone" starts off more abstract, before it trips into some quick breaks that spin off with some thick bass hits, but the "Bueno" closes the album on a longer, warm journey, even though it takes a blippy detour 2/3rds of the way through. All in all, a great album, one that still stays on heavy rotation.
